In this talk, Dr. Lawrence Feingold will discuss the phenomenon of Culture Lite.
The word “lite” (or “light”) in the expression culture lite is being used here in analogy with products labeled as “lite” such as Pepsi lite, etc. The word is being taken in the sense of superficiality, lightweight, levity, lack of seriousness, earnestness and purpose; lack of weight and constancy; lack of passion for the truth, for what is permanent, eternal, transcendent, divine.
My thesis is that the dominant Western culture (including various counter-cultures and criticisms of that dominant culture), is characterized by a lack of conviction, commitment, earnestness and self-sacrifice. The opposite of the lite mentality is the man of faith, the man of God.
Every society lives by a certain vision of man and his relation with God. It cannot help but project a certain ideal (or ideals) of man, which it collectively strives to realize and imitate.

Saturday Sep 20, 2025

In this talk, Dr. Lawrence Feingold will discuss “Postmodernism,” Religious Indifferentism, and the Loss of Meaning in Life.

The greatest tragedy of the modern world is the loss of faith, not only in God, but also in truth itself, and our ability to know it by any means, whether by reason or faith.
Allan Bloom, in The Closing of the American Mind, writes:
“…The most important and most astonishing phenomenon of our time, all the more astonishing in being almost unnoticed: there is now an entirely new language of good and evil, originating in an attempt to get ‘beyond good and evil’ and preventing us from talking with any conviction about good and evil anymore…. The new language is that of value relativism, and it constitutes a change in our view of things moral and political as great as the one that took place when Christianity replaced Greek and Roman paganism.”

Saturday Sep 20, 2025

In this talk, Dr. Lawrence Feingold will discuss the virtues of Magnanimity and Religion.

Magnanimity, as its name indicates, refers to a stable disposition of the mind to strive to achieve great things, to do deeds worth of honor and merit, to pursue excellence with abnegation and perseverance.
Another virtue conspicuously absent in our time is that of religion or piety. The great scholastic philosophers speak of Religion as a moral virtue, the virtue by which we give to God the honor that is due to him.

Wednesday Oct 01, 2025

In this talk, Dr. Lawrence Feingold will discuss how Apologetics uses philosophy to demonstrate what are called the “preambles of faith.” The “preambles of faith” refer to certain fundamental truths which can be known by reason alone (that is, by philosophy), which form the basis for belief in religion. These truths include the truths about God, about man, and about our duties towards God.
